Professor Ali Kazimi earns Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts
Announced by the Canada Council for the Arts on Feb. 13, the award honours artists for their exceptional careers and excellent contributions to the arts.
Winners were selected by a peer committee, and will receive a $25,000 prize and a bronze medallion at a celebration to take place on March 28 at Rideau Hall. Additionally, some of their works will be displayed at the National Gallery of Canada in the coming months.
Malcolm Thurlby to be given second annual AMPD Research Award on February 27
Thurlby will be presented with the second annual AMPD Research Award at a celebration on February 27th 2:30-5:00 in room 130 of the Joan & Martin Goldfarb Centre for Fine Arts at York University’s Keele Street campus. The highlight of the event will be Thurlby delivering an illustrated lecture on Gothic Church Architecture in Canada, sharing some of his impressive photography collection and history and insights around significant examples of Gothic churches from from St John’s, Newfoundland, to Vancouver Island BC.
AMPD professor donates documentary collection to Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives
The Nancy Nicol Collection includes interviews with activists, community leaders and human rights lawyers, and documentation of watershed developments and events the history of the lesbian and gay movement in Canada from 1969 to 2009.
