Program Overview

Offered exclusively on York University’s Markham Campus starting September 2024, the Creative Technologies (BFA) program empowers students to develop multidisciplinary creative skills and technological expertise through hands-on learning with an emphasis on social applications and contexts.  

As part of the program, you will engage in collaborative research projects and digital projects that address real-world problems and contribute to emerging industries.  

Through innovative skills-based courses, you will gain practical experience such as technology for fabrication, media processes, digital content creation, virtual environments, and more.

Program Highlights

Create exceptional, socially engaged projects in the creative industries using advanced digital technologies.  

Analyze and critique contemporary digital projects within aesthetic, conceptual, and historical frameworks. 

Develop technological skills and creative methodologies to generate ideas, proposals, and solutions within collaborative, interdisciplinary, and professional settings.

Gain professional experience through an optional co-op placement with industry partners, community organizations, and others in the City of Markham, the wider York Region, and within global networks.

Students are expected to take three 1.0 credit courses per year in a range of technical knowledge and project management skills in Years 1-3:

  • AV Tools for Creative Technologies (Reaper, Davinci Resolve, Web Coding) 
  • Visual Design Tools for Creative Technologies (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign) 
  • Project Skills for Creative Technologies (Grant Writing, Project Development, Scheduling and Budgeting)  
  • Virtual World Tools for Creative Technologies (Blender, Unreal Engine, Adobe Substance)
