Soprano Jonelle Sills (BFA ’16) earns a spot in the Vancouver  Opera’s Yulanda M. Faris Young Artists Program lead by industry leaders Leslie Dala, Kinza Tyrrell, Tina Chang and Vancouver Opera Music Director Emeritus Jonathan Darlington.

Winner of the Dora Award winner for outstanding performance of an Ensemble in Vivier’s Kopernikus with Against the Grain Theatre Ensemble, Sills has quickly distinguished herself in the Canadian music community. In 2020 CBC Music named Sills as one ’30 under 30′. Notably, Sills has graced the stage in La Boheme (Mimi) with Against the Grain Theatre, Silent Night (Esther) with Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and as the title roles in Cendrillon and La Cecchina with The Glenn Gould School.

The program engages, enriches, mentors and trains rising young Canadian opera artists and offers a bridge between formal academic educational programs and the professional world in a supportive and encouraging environment. Sills will be offered the opportunity to train with industry leaders through master classes, one-on-one coaching with Vancouver Opera resident music staff and performance opportunities as part of a residency program.

The program is made possible through a gift from the family of Yulanda M. Faris. For more information, visit www.vancouveropera.ca.
