About GPAs

Averages are calculated on the basis of the point value assigned to each letter grade.

A+ = 9 C = 4
A = 8 D+ = 3
B+ = 7 D = 2
B = 6 E = 1
C+ = 5 F = 0

To calculate a grade point average, take each course and multiply the number of credits by the grade point value. Add the results of this calculation, and divide by the total number of credits. The result will be the overall grade point average.

(The examples below are for purposes of illustration only.)

EXAMPLES:

Course Credit Value Grade and Points Earned Credit x Points = Total Points Grade Point Average
xxxx 6.0 6 C+ 5 6 X 5 = 30
xxxx 6.0 6 F 0 6 x 0 = 0
xxxx 6.0 6 B 6 6 x 6 = 36
xxxx 3.0 3 B 6 3 x 6 = 18
xxxx 3.0 3 B 6 3 x 6 = 18
Total Credits: 24 Total Points: 102 102/24 = 4.25

or:

Course Credit Value Grade and Points Earned Credit x Points = Total Points Grade Point Average
xxxx 3.0 3 C 4 3 x 4 = 12
xxxx 6.0 6 B 6 6 x 6 = 36
xxxx 3.0 3 C+ 5 3 x 5 = 15
xxxx 6.0 6 C+ 5 6 x 5 = 30
xxxx 4.5 4.5 B+ 7 4.5 x 7 = 31.5
Total Credits: 22.5 Total Points: 124.5 124.5/22.5 = 5.53

It should be noted that grades of E and F are failures and will be included in the calculation of grade point averages.
