BETHANY COLLINS AND BRENDAN FERNANDES WIN 2019 CHICAGO ARTADIA AWARDS
Artadia, a nonprofit organization that supports artists working in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco through its merit-based awards program, has selected Bethany Collins and Brendan Fernandes as the winners of this year’s Chicago Artadia Awards. They will each receive $10,000.
The jury for Artadia’s tenth cycle in Chicago comprised Ylinka Barotto, assistant curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation; Ian Berry, director of the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery in Saratoga Springs, New York; Grace Deveney, assistant curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and Romi Crawford, associate professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
“Fernandes and Collins’s work, at this stage in their careers, compellingly communicates their talents, as well as their zeal for pushing the bounds of, and problematizing the reception of, the visual arts object, and in the case of Fernandes its very existence,” Crawford said.
