Hello everyone! My name is Lindsey Thompson. I am a fourth year dance major in the choreography performance stream, but I’m also enrolled in consecutive education and my second teaching subject is kinesiology. I am a member of the York Dance Ensemble and aspire to continue to grow and develop my craft. I grew up in Ottawa, On. and have always had a passion for art, physical activity and teaching, which brought me to York University. Not only is York’s dance faculty incredible, but I’ve also had the opportunity to study other areas of interest while dancing.
I am a certified gymnastics and cheerleading coach and love learning about anatomy and physical fitness. York allows me to explore my passion for kinesiology and education while dancing. I have been a member of the Dance Student Association since my first year and currently run dance fuel, a fitness class for dancers every Wednesday. Post-graduation I hope to teach dancing professionally, produce shows, and attend international festivals. I also aspire to get my personal training certification and Pilates instructor certification.
Further down the road I see myself teaching internationally and potentially becoming a professor. York has granted me so many opportunities since my first year. I have performed at Nuit Blanche, participated in numerous workshops, produced a show, and have held many leadership roles. York is filled with opportunities and resources for success. The biggest piece of advice I can give is to be proactive and reach-out to all that is offered to you.
