Hi, my name is Liana Shaw! My pronouns are she/her. I am a Cinema and Media Studies student currently in my 3rd year here at York. I chose to study at York because of the diversity and multicultural experience that the university provides, as well as the opportunity to learn from incredible people who work in my field.
My program has really helped me figure out how I fit into the art community here at York and in the wider world. In the future I hope to continue my academic career with a Masters in art and film history. Even though I am in the film program, I have a very broad love of the arts and I have been exploring my options in curating, specifically in terms of film festivals and art galleries. This is what I hope to do in the future!
I was an Orientation Leader for Frosh last year, and the Department Leader for Cinema and Media Arts in this year’s Frosh week. I am also involved in Winters College Council as the Recording Secretary so if you come to any of the great events we have going on this year, please say hi if you recognize me!
A lot of people do not know this about me but even though I’m Canadian, I spent 18 years of my life growing up in Thailand! Moving here alone in my first year without any family nearby was definitely a big change for me and I experienced some culture shock. I now love Toronto and have found an incredible community within the AMPD faculty and Winters College. They support my passions and allow me to be part of a beautiful atmosphere of support and collaboration within the arts faculty. This is evident in the many events we hold throughout the year.
