Divya Mehta

My name is Divya Mehta and I will be one of your Digital Media Peer Mentors for this academic year 2017-2018. I am currently a 3rd year Digital Media student here at York University. I grew up in the sweet island of Trinidad but I permanently moved to Toronto, Canada in 2014. I chose to study at York University because of its friendly, diverse and welcoming environment. Most importantly, it is the home of one of the most unique programs in Canada, Digital Media.

What I love about Digital Media is the fact that it’s a multifaceted program which allows individuals to delve into both their creative and technological horizons. The possibilities are endless with this program for skill development and career choices. What further enhances the Digital Media program is the fact that we have some of the most amazing, talented and friendliest Professors. They really inspire us to create amazing projects and best of all they provide students with the opportunity to showcase their work at the end of the year Digital Media Showcase and at downtown Toronto galleries. After I graduate York University in 2019, I envision myself working in a field that involves the creation of artificial intelligence.

I know that the first year at University can be a very overwhelming year for everyone. I remember vividly when I started my first year at York, I was terrified. This I attributed to coming from such a small island and I had to learn to adapt to the new culture and the large-scale environment. One of my biggest fears was wondering if I would be able to navigate through York to find all my classes. I was worried if I would be able to effectively time manage around all of my courses. However, gradually as time passed, I was able to find my way around, make new friends, find my own rhythm and adapt to the ever-changing days at York University.

I really look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you. Best of luck for your new academic year :)!
