Hi! My name is Amy Kingston and I am a second year double major specializing in Theatre Studies and Human Rights and Equity. My pronouns are she/her. I am originally from Red Deer, Alberta but I have recently completed a one year intensive acting program in Vancouver. After I completed the program, I decided that I wanted to receive more training in more than one aspect of the theatre and decided to move to another Canadian city.
The reason I chose to study at York is because I loved the idea that a theatre program could be multi-disciplinary and expose students to all aspects of the stage. First year gave me the chance to become a more well-rounded artist and foster important skills such as sewing a costume and hanging a light, all the way to being able to explore the human condition in the acting studios. I was also able to pursue another passion of mine and double major in Human Rights. This provided me with the opportunity to learn more about social injustices in the world and the first steps to help improve the world for everybody. This has been an eye-opening experience.
I look forward to combining my two degrees by using my knowledge in Human Rights to influence the art that I want to put out into the world. I look forward to getting to know all of my lovely peers and fellow artists and I hope to see you all in the hallways!
