York University excels in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, with AMPD's Performing Arts ranking third in Canada and in the global Top 100

The 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject has placed York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) among the top 100 globally and third in Canada for Performing Arts.

This year's rankings evaluated close to 2,000 universities across 55 academic disciplines. York University jumped 20 spots in rankings and saw its highest-ever number of subjects ranked in the global top 100, with Performing Arts among the six subjects to achieve this distinction.

"This remarkable achievement reflects the dedication of our faculty, students, and staff who continue to push the boundaries of knowledge and impact. Reaching our highest-ever number of top 100 subject rankings is a testament to York's growing global reputation — and our unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. I am proud of how far we've come and energized by where we are headed,” says Lisa Philipps, York University interim president and vice-chancellor.

Among Canadian universities, AMPD's Performing Arts ranked third, for the second year in a row, out of 33 institutions evaluated.

AMPD is internationally recognized as an incubator for performing arts innovation, continuously advancing and modernizing its programming for student performers across a comprehensive range of disciplines, including theatre, dance and music.

QS World University Rankings by Subject is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
