BIOGRAPHY

 Teaching is in my blood…nurturing the future generations of designers 

Albert Ng is an award‐winning design professor at York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance, & Design (AMPD). He is passionate about the high quality of design education and, the standard of professional design. Albert has been instrumental in the milieu of Canada’s graphic design professional accreditation and quality assurance of postsecondary design education, and successfully established professional accreditation for graphic designers in Ontario in 1996, second in the world after Switzerland. In Canada, Albert is the reputed “Father of Canadian professional graphic design accreditation”. 

In addition to Albert’s teaching awards –Adobe Design Achievement Awards, Graphis Gold Award, A’ Design Awards, and RGD Design Educator Award for Eastern Canada (HM), his students have secured multiple high-profile accolades at many prestigious international and national contests, including over 400 hundred awards in package and product design. Many award-winning projects have also been favoured by manufacturers and museums, including one of the student projects collected by, and displayed at MoMA -the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The University is establishing an ‘Albert Ng Design Scholarship’ in his name to recognize Albert’s contributions to the University and the design school, and to help students design a bright future for years to come. 

 He has been a visiting professor at various universities and institutes in the world, including the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (MDes) and Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia. Albert is also a design consultant, speaker, illustrator, and professional designer specializing in branding, package design, professional English & Chinese calligraphy, and typography. He has worked in corporate branding, packaging, publication, display design, postage stamps, and coin designs for a wide variety of clients, including Canada Post and the Royal Canadian Mint. 

Albert is the founding president of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD), former VP of the International Council of Design (ico‐D*), and former director of Toronto Design Exchange. He has served many international, national, and provincial advisory committees, including working as the Advisory Chair of Sheridan College’s Graphic Design Program for 10 years. Albert has also served on many design competition judging panels in Asia, Europe, Russia, and North & South America. He is a Fellow of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada, and the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario. The list of accolades received by Albert includes the Order of Ontario, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Chinese Canadian Legend Award. Albert Ng is listed in the Canadian Who’s Who.
