Biography

Miriam Sue taught Gu-Zheng in Hong Kong starting from 1981. She has been a member of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra and was selected to represent Hong Kong to attend concerts in Britain in 1982. Likewise, she had toured in the USA, Singapore, Taiwan, and China along with other Chinese orchestra members as a solo and ensemble player.
Since 1995, Sue has lived in Toronto, Canada, where she performed Gu-Zheng in various events and venues, including functions held by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Toronto, Hong Kong Tourist Association in Toronto, Royal Ontario Museum, Harbourfront performance, Markham Festival as well as Spadina Street Festival.
Sue currently teaches the Gu-Zheng at York University in their World Music program as a Zheng Instructor and also performed at York University with her fellow Chinese ensemble members.
Her students were awarded honor prizes of the Non-Western plucked class in the Kiwanis Music Festival Competition. She had also recorded CD in jazz music, golden pop music, and traditional Chinese music. She performed Zheng and percussion instruments in concerts with Toronto Chinese Orchestra in Toronto, Edmonton, Montreal, and Ottawa.
She also performs Zheng as a volunteer for the seniors at various locations of Mon Sheong Long Term Care Centre and Yee Hong Long-Term Care.
