Biography

Lyndon Barrois Jr. (b. New Orleans, USA) is an artist and educator based in Toronto, Canada. Working across a range of media, he mines references from film, literature, art history to produce translations and transformations to examine the politics of display and colonial extraction9resonant in visual and material cultures. His practice navigates questions of color, control, taste, waste, and the layering of information.

Barrois Jr. is also one half of LAB-D, a collaborative practice with artist Addoley Dzegede. Together, they have staged four exhibitions and co-authored a book of essays, Elleboog (Jan van Eyck Academie, 2019). He received an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis (2013) and a BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore (2006), and completed residencies at LATITUDE (Chicago, Illinois); Loghaven (Knoxville, Tennessee); the Jan van Eyck Academie (Maastricht, the Netherlands); Fogo Island Arts (Newfoundland, Canada); and the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) (Dublin, Ireland). Most recently, he was the 2025 Starr Fellow at the Royal Academy Schools, London.

As of July 2026, Barrois Jr. is an Assistant Professor at York University in Toronto. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor and MFA Program Director at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
