Barbara Ackerman, free-Lance flutist, Instructor, and administrator, has been teaching music for many years. A graduate of York University’s Music Department, Barbara became a Contract Faculty member, a position she has held since 1985. in addition to private flute instruction, she coaches chamber music ensembles, and previously was Course Director of a large mixed level flute class, a woodwind ensemble, and a woodwind education class. Barbara has a home studio where she teaches private flute lessons to students of all ages and levels and teaches young children beginner piano. Having taught at several music camps and given many school clinics throughout the GTA, Barbara is well known as an educator. Her freelance performing career has been eclectic, having performed with symphony orchestras, including The National Ballet Orchestra, Toronto Philharmonic, CJRT Orchestra, and Toronto Symphonietta, chamber groups including Arraymusic, choral concert orchestras, many musical theatre productions including a run on Broadway, and recordings for film, television, and commercials. Barbara has performed at hundreds of weddings and receptions and collaborated with Elizabeth Acker and Brian Katz for many of these. She also contracted and worked in administration for choirs, including The Cellar Singers, musical theatre orchestras, and other events.
