Portfolio Tips

Edit, edit, edit! Curate your portfolio to the best and most recent work.
Start and end with key pieces.
Bring your own computer or tablet to showcase your strengths in non-traditional media.
Be confident and tell your story! Follow a story structure to get them engaged in your work.
Don’t forget to ask questions! That way you get a better sense of the program and if it’s the right fit for you.
Plan to have different portfolios for different programs.
Show Diversity! Include a variety of work as many schools have interdisciplinary focus.
Show the process! They want to see how you think and develop ideas.
Sketchbooks are key! Sketches show research, inspiration and thought process.
Practice makes perfect! Present your portfolio to your family and friends so you’re polished when you see the professors!

Tips for the Day

Bring snacks, dress in layers and wear comfy shoes.
Arrive early as this is a popular event.
Try to meet with your top 3 choices first as there will not be enough time to meet all the schools.
If your portfolio rocks, we will waive your Supplementary Evaluation.
If your portfolio needs improvements then it’s great to find out early at National Portfolio Day.
