Toronto’s premiere international dance festival and AMPD explore post-pandemic dance evolution

The York University School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) is delighted to be partnering with Toronto’s premiere international dance festival, Fall for Dance North (FFDN), for a cinematic exploration of how the art of screendance continues to evolve post-pandemic.

Fall for Dance North Toronto’s 8th annual festival runs from September 17 to October 8, 2022, with a diverse line-up of innovative programming including over 15 world premieres from movement artists, musicians and filmmakers.  AMPD will host 8-Count: Delightful moments of dance cinema on September 24 at the Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre.

Three films are confirmed for 8-Count, with two works making their world premieres and the other its Canadian premiere. Royal New Zealand Ballet’s Choreographer in Residence, Loughlan Prior, partnered with Canada’s National Ballet School’s Ballet Unleashed to create Inklings, a blend of classical ballet movement with gorgeous animations. New York based Gibney Dance Company artist Zui Gomez’s …Savannah? brings moments of levity while Toronto based artists Roshanak Jaberi & Karen Kaeja’s Slipping is a deeply emotional journey taking place over a two-week residency in the beautiful town of Val-Des-Lacs, Quebec.

Each screening will be followed by a moderated artist chat with the select directors, giving exclusive access to their creative process. Additional films will be announced in September with films included in 8-Count available to stream free on the FFDN website until the end of the festival.
