PODIUM 2022 unites Canada with help from Professor Karen Burke and Stephanie Martin

PODIUM 2022 unites Canada with help from Professor Karen Burke and Stephanie Martin

From May 19 to 23, the PODIUM 2022 national biennial bilingual choral conference will be held online and in person in Toronto, Ontario.

Planned by Choral Canada and Choirs Ontario, including AMPD’s own Professor Karen Burke and Stephanie Martin, PODIUM 2022 brings together choral scholars and enthusiasts from across the globe to explore the conference theme of “Reimagine, Rebuild, Reconnect”.

Unique to PODIUM 2022, the five-day schedule will combine performers and presenters from previous conferences and new voices. The conference will have participants reflect on the pandemic’s challenges, opportunities and collective calls for justice and create a powerful chance to reimagine the possibilities of the choral community.

In 2018, the conference had 1200 singers and 45 Canadian choirs perform a total of 61 pieces by Canadian composers for 8000 audience members. Throughout the conference, 117 session presenters created spaces of curiosity, listening, reflection, and dialogue for 483 conference delegates. This year’s conference looks to be bigger and bolder, taking over the province’s capital.

PODIUM 2022 is our opportunity to gather with friends new and old in Toronto, one of the world’s most multicultural and exciting cities.
