The myth “the artist stands alone” is something artist and entrepreneur Sophie Brussaux wants to challenge. A former wealth management graduate and current Arts Help Founder and Artistic Director, Brussaux explores the necessity of community and collaboration in realizing your creative potential in the latest installment of the Final Mile Club Podcast.

Brussaux operates at the intersection of art, commerce and social justice. A businesswoman by training and artist by practice, Brussaux has exhibited her works across the globe, including at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Speaking about her unconventional path to a career in the arts and her experience launching a new company with a little help from friends, Brussaux shares her approach to finding your passion and ways to build collaboration into your practice.

The Final Mile Club (FMC) prepares emerging artists, makers, performers, and designers for life after graduation. As a project by York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD), FMC examines creatives’ unique challenges through conversations with prominent alumni and industry experts.

FMC is hosted by Dr. Sarah Bay-Cheng, Dean of AMPD and a Professor of Theatre & Performance Studies. Dr. Bay-Cheng’s research focuses on the intersections among theatre, performance, and media.
