AMPD students build community with Play On The Runway

AMPD students Hazel Chia, Farisya Khairul. Armani Araujo and Siddarth Koyal helping facilitate Play on the Runway at Downsview Airport.

On Sunday, June 26, AMPD students Hazel Chia, Farisya Khairul. Armani Araujo and Siddarth Koya supported Northcrest Developments and Canada Lands Company’s Play On The Runway, where a 2 km runway at Downsview Airport opened to the community for an afternoon of free play in celebration of North York’s 100th birthday.

The AMPD students create community by ensuring visitors felt welcomed, engaged and comfortable. From directing patrons to the runway from the parking lot and checking them in to monitoring different zones across the 2.1km space and helping to clear the site after the event, AMPD students helped make the afternoon a success.

Play On The Runway is the first time the Downsview Airport runway has been open to the public since 2003 and was made possible with support from City Councilor James Pasternak and Bombardier. The event marked the first of many events to be held on the 520-acre site of a soon-to-be vibrant community characterized by connectivity, nature, sustainability, accessibility, art and culture.
