You'll get extensive hands-on experience, performing in fully mounted productions, working side-by-side with peers, award-winning faculty and industry pros. All of this in Toronto, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant season of shows.
Program Overview
Develop your craft as an actor in York University’s Theatre - Acting and Performance program, a specialized studio-based program focused on acting for stage and screen. You’ll train in performance techniques, character creation and multiple acting methods while learning how to build fully embodied, compelling performances drawn from diverse dramatic sources.
After completing a common first year with all Theatre students, you’ll move into a focused sequence of courses in Acting, Devised Theatre, Voice, Movement and other specialized performance classes. Over three years of intensive training, you’ll develop the technical, creative and collaborative skills needed for careers in acting, performing arts, theatre, film, television and digital performance.
You’ll also benefit from year-round performance opportunities, both in and outside the classroom, under the supervision of professional faculty working in performance fields today. By the time you graduate, you’ll have strong acting technique, extensive performance experience and the confidence to step into a range of roles across the performing arts and screen industries.

Acting & Performance Program
The Acting & Performance Program offers rigorous studio-based training. Students study acting, devising, voice, movement and specialized skills over the three final years of the degree, which are then applied to performances. Students map their own route through the program, with flexible options for studio courses in third and fourth year. Upper-year students perform their Capstone Projects in either our renowned Devised Theatre Festival, or on Theatre@York’s main stages featuring Canadian, international, classic and contemporary plays directed by Theatre industry professionals.

TUITION, FEES & FUNDING

REQUIREMENTS
Our programs are open to students directly from high school, those with previous post-secondary studies, international students, exchange students, and mature applicants.

Yes. Online auditions are available for students who are unable to attend campus due to distance or other circumstances. You may submit your audition performance videos online as part of your supplementary application. If we require more information, we may contact you to arrange a brief Zoom interview.
