A continued partnership between York University and Cinespace Studios is giving the next generation of filmmakers more space to learn, experiment and bring their ideas to life.
Through a two-year in-kind donation, Cinespace is providing York U Motion Media Studio (YUMMS) with exclusive use of Stages 1 and 2 at its Toronto production facilities. The partnership gives students from York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) access to professional studio environments and industry-standard technologies as part of their education.
The donation builds on a relationship between York and Cinespace that has supported hands-on learning and film production opportunities for AMPD students since 2016.
“This is an investment in the future of Canada's film and television industry,” says AMPD Dean Brandon Vickerd. “By providing our students with access to professional, industry-leading production environments, Cinespace is helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world practice.”

Hands-on film and television production at YUMMS
Located within one of Toronto’s major film and television production hubs, YUMMS is an exclusive production space dedicated to AMPD students.
Through production work, workshops, masterclasses and mentorship from industry professionals, students can build their skills while gaining experience in a working studio environment.
Students explore a wide range of roles across film and television, including directing, screenwriting, cinematography, production design, sound, editing, costume and performance.
The Cinespace campus places students alongside studios where internationally recognized productions including The Shape of Water, Chicago, Mean Girls, Resident Evil, Chucky, Law & Order, Titans, The Umbrella Academy, The Handmaid’s Tale and Frankenstein have been created.

Building the next generation of film and television talent
By extending access to Stages 1 and 2 for another two years, Cinespace is helping ensure AMPD students can continue learning, experimenting and creating within one of Toronto’s leading film and television production environments.
“At AMPD, we are committed to creating experiential learning opportunities that prepare students to thrive as creative leaders, storytellers and innovators. We are deeply grateful for Cinespace's continued partnership and their shared commitment to developing the next generation of film talent,” says Dean Vickerd.
