– Special consideration will be given to student’s whose projects include work in photography or theatre performance studies. (This award is cross-listed under the Visual Arts & Art History list of Awards with separate funds available)
– Annually one award will be available to an undergraduate student and another to a graduate student
– Recipients of these awards must be Canadian Citizens, permanent residents or protected persons
– Must be Ontario residents
– Must demonstrate financial need



Elizabeth Szathmary Theatre Scholarships

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

– The Elizabeth Szathmary Scholarships will be given annually to four (4) full-time undergraduate students in the Department of Theatre
– Student must have completed two years of study as Theatre majors.
– Each recipient will have attained a minimum overall grade point average of 7.50.
– Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons
– Must be residents of Ontario
– Must demonstrate financial need
– A student can only receive this scholarship once



John M. Tait Award

Fitzhenry-Weatherhead Theatre Award

  • Must be a resident of Ontario
  • 3rd year

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

– Given in recognition of excellence and achievement in academic studies or creative work in Theatre to a Year 3 or 4 Theatre major enrolled in any of York’s Theatre programs.
– Selection/eligibility criteria include completion of at least 48 academic credits, and sound academic standing (minimum 6.00 (B) average).
– Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons
– Residents of Ontario and demonstrate financial need.
– Both part-time and full-time students are encouraged to apply.



Herman Geiger-Torel Memorial Prize

Student to Apply to award.  SFP is not required to be eligible for this award.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

– The Mac Shoub Scholarship is given in recognition of exceptional talent and achievement in acting to a theatre major entering Year 4 studies in the acting stream.
– A Student Financial Profile application is not required to be eligible for this award.



York Independent Theatre Management

Nomination by Theatre Department.

– Awarded to a student who, during the academic year, has displayed outstanding ability in the arts management field.

Kenneth Ford Memorial Award
