AMPD unveils an exciting 2024-25 season of Theatre and Dance

The Department of Theatre, Dance and Performance at York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design has unveiled an exciting lineup of theatre and dance performances for the 2024-25 season. From powerful plays to innovative choreography, this season’s young talent will captivate and inspire audiences.

“We’re so excited to share the work of these emerging artists as they rise to the occasion with new choreographic works and moving productions of plays that are both fun and challenging,” says Eric Armstrong, Chair of the Department. “Our students have poured their hearts into these productions, and we invite you to experience the magic they’ve created.”

Kicking off the season is Concord Floral by Jordan Tannahill, running from October 31 to November 3, 2024, a haunting coming-of-age story brought to life by our third-year Acting & Performance students, with direction from Professor Jamie Robinson.

To follow, Dance Innovations will showcase original student choreography from our fourth-year Dance students from November 20 to 22, 2024.

Next, She Kills Monsters, directed by guest artist Ruth Madoc-Jones, promises a high-energy journey into the world of fantasy role-playing games, performed by our BFA Acting & Performance students, running from November 17 to 23, 2024.

The Annual Dance Program Showcase runs from January 29 to 31, 2025, featuring choreography by faculty and guest artists, performed by the York Dance Ensemble. February sees the return of our annual festival, playGround, running from February 11 to 14, 2025, showcasing student-created and produced work.

In March, we present Duncan MacMillan’s thought-provoking People, Places, and Things, directed by Andrew Moodie, running from March 22 to 29, 2025.

The season concludes with York Dances on March 27 and 28, 2025, spotlighting original choreographies by third-year Dance students, and the Scenes by Designexhibition, which runs from March 26 to 29, 2025, where Production and Design students display their work from the year’s productions.
