AMPD Alumni Shine at 2025 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Awards



York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) proudly celebrates five alumni who were recognized at the 2025 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Awards. Now in its 12th year, the annual celebration honours the standout voices and productions that shaped Toronto’s theatre scene over the 2024–25 season. This year’s honourees include:

Miriam Fernandes (BFA ’11)
Best New Canadian Work for Mahabharata (Why Not Theatre and Canadian Stage)

John Gzowski (MA ’23) and Suba Sankaran (MA ’02, BFA ’97)
Best Sound Design and Music of a Play or Musical for Mahabharata

Weyni Mengesha (BFA ’05)
Special Citation for her leadership as Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre

Ins Choi (BFA ’98)
Best Lead Performance in a Play for Kim’s Convenience (Soulpepper Theatre)

The 2025 Toronto Theatre Critics’ Awards once again highlight the exceptional impact of AMPD alumni in shaping the future of Canadian theatre.
