Alum Mel Hague named Artistic Director for Toronto's Factory Theatre
The Factory Theatre Artistic Director Search Committee appointed acclaimed dramaturge and AMPD Theatre alum Mel Hague (BA '09, MFA' 11) Artistic Director of Factory Theatre. Hague will take over for AMPD's Prof. Nina Lee Aquino, who is preparing to helm the NAC English Theatre as Artistic Director.
Hague has worked extensively with artists from all disciplines across Canada and is a highly sought-after dramaturg, mentor, and curator. Currently working as the Associate Artistic Director at Canadian Stage, Hague has also held roles as the Rhubarb Festival Director, Company Dramaturge at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, and the Artist Development Coordinator and Company Dramaturge at Obsidian Theatre. Now at the iconic Factory Theatre, Hague will work in an exculsivly Canadian landscape.
For over 50 years, Factory Theatre has been known as the "Home of the Canadian Playwright". Since it's founding in 1970, Factory Theatre committed to exclusively producing Canadian plays and made it an artistic priority to invest in Canadian artists. Now, Factor Theatre has produced more than 300 new Canadian plays in mainstage productions and 600 more in workshops and other formats.
