Aimée Mitchell Receives the 2023 Gary Brewer Emerging Leader Award



Aimée Mitchell, Research Officer at York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD), has been named the recipient of the 2023 Gary Brewer Emerging Leader Award. This esteemed award, named after former Vice-President of Finance and Administration, Gary Brewer, recognizes exceptional leadership potential and meaningful contributions to the York university community.

As Research Officer, Mitchell has been instrumental in supporting AMPD researchers, helping faculty members secure multiple SSHRC Partnership Grants and prestigious accolades, including the President’s Emerging Research Leader Award, the Killam Prize and Royal Society of Canada Fellowships.

“Aimée Mitchell has quickly established herself as an invaluable member of our research support team,” says Laura Levin, professor at AMPD and Director or the Sensorium Centre for Digital Arts and Technology. “Not only does she deliver high-quality service to her faculty, but she also generously shares her knowledge with others, strengthening our entire research support ecosystem.”

Mitchell’s dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion ensures that all researchers receive the support and recognition they deserve. Notably, she recently played a key role in securing a $1M grant for an early-career Indigenous researcher, demonstrating her commitment to fostering opportunities for emerging scholars from diverse backgrounds.
