2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject: AMPD Performing Arts Among Top 150 Globally



Every year, the QS World University Rankings by Subject identifies the world's strongest universities in 55 individual subject areas, grouped into five subject areas: Arts and Humanities; Engineering and Technology; Life Sciences and Medicine; Natural Sciences; and Social Sciences and Management. In the 2024 publication of the rankings, York University experienced notable changes in its performance across various subject areas. Notably, York’s Arts and Humanities ranking saw a remarkable improvement over the past year, now tied for #157 globally.

Highlighting the report's findings, York University secured positions among the top 100 globally in three subjects: education, English language and literature, and philosophy. Additionally, York excelled within the top 150 in eight other subject areas: anthropology, history, accounting and finance, communication and media studies, performing arts, sociology, and psychology. Particularly noteworthy for the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is performing arts, attaining a prestigious position within the top 120 worldwide. Among Canadian universities, York’s performing arts ranks in the top five.

York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is internationally recognized as an incubator for performing arts innovation. The first university in Canada to offer jazz and gospel as part of its Music degree program, York continues to advance and modernize its programming for diverse student performers. More recently, a research report conducted by Community Researchers, the York University School of Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) has been ranked the premier University in Ontario for the cultural diversity of its performing arts curricula in Music and Dance. These accolades affirm York University’s commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and positive change in performing arts education.
