Paojia Tang

My name is Paojia (PJ for short), I am currently enrolled in my 3rd year in the YSDN (York Sheridan Design) program, I identify as a female, preferring she and her, as well as pansexual (LGBTQ+ pride!!). I was born and raised right here in the GTA, specifically Brampton. Growing up I’ve always been interested and an active member in the arts and arts community. I made several year book designs in middle school and high school, went to a lot of art galleries that were local to my area, and of course went downtown as well. I love going to art festivals and exhibitions that allowed you to meet the artist and actually interact with them. I constantly kept my sketchbook updated with new inspirational artists, business cards that I received from artists I talked to, pictures of works that truly inspired me etc.

My ex-girlfriend’s father is a graphic designer by profession, and in high school really encouraged me to apply to the YSDN program at York and Sheridan. But I ended up accepting my offer to the YSDN program because of my high school art teacher. She at the time was taking her Masters at York, and was helping me pick between OCADU (Ontario Collage of Art and Design University) and YSDN. She encouraged me to study at York due to the university’s wide range in other courses and departments. I love the fact that my program allows me to venture out and not only appreciate but immerse myself in other art forms, as well as intertwine them together to create my own projects. I also can’t get enough for the diversity between the two institutions and the faculty, and how helpful everyone is!

After finishing this program, I really hope to be a successful Designer specializing in typography and package design, hopefully doing a lot of editorial and book work. My current boyfriend and I are also hoping to start up a joint business where we can both work with companies and campaigns, as he is very into photography and is hoping to be a great cinematographer/director one day. So look out world!
