Maria Lucia Llano

Hola! My name is Lucía. I moved to Toronto in 2014 as an International Student from Colombia. Currently, I am in my 4th year of the Dance-Choreography & Performance program. I chose York because of its well-rounded program where I am not only training to be a performer but also I am learning about production, writing education and choreography which have been part of my development as an artist.

Living away from home has been both hard and amazing! I’ve been able to get involved with the student community in these past years which has made my University experience much more enjoyable and nurturing. For two years I worked as an International Student Ambassador and that experience lead me to be a Student Ambassador and Mentor for AMPD today. I was part of the Salsa Club, I participated in intramural sports and now I am the VP Finance of the Dance Students’ Association. I’ve had the pleasure to perform in various shows within the Dance and Theatre Departments and this is my second year as a member of the York Dance Ensemble!

In the future, I would like to gain performance experience by traveling and exploring other cultures through different dance styles. I would like to share and develop artistic education programs in countries with strong socio-economic problems.
