4th Year Design Student
Hi everyone! My name is Simone, and I am a fourth year Design student enrolled in the joint program between York University and Sheridan College (it’s fondly referred to as YSDN by students and graduates). I grew up in Cobourg but always loved to travel, so in the winter semester of my third year, I was able to complete a semester of my studies abroad in Weimar, Germany at the Bauhaus University! Now I’m back in Toronto and excited for my final year (!) of YSDN.
I love YSDN because you bond with a tiny community of design students who are currently enrolled in the program, but also join a huge global community of graduates who all have total YSDN pride. Our graduates have gone on to do incredible, inspiring work. All of the students in YSDN are tremendously hard-working, which has motivated me to push my boundaries as a designer.
While YSDN is such a small program, it’s part of a huge school which has amazing benefits. Because York is so large, you are afforded hundreds of different non-design classes to choose from. Being able to choose from such a breadth of elective courses has supplemented my design education in a way that no other school can replicate. I’ve taken incredible design courses, social science courses, and (of course) amazing courses inside the interdisciplinary school of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design.
I love being an AMPD student because of my connections with the other faculties. I’ve been able to design for different publications in the faculty, as well as design for V-Day at York, working to end violence against women through performances, workshops, and more. Primarily, I’ve been an active member of the Design Students Association since my first year at York. When you become involved on campus, York becomes more than just a school!
This year, you can find me hanging out in the Mac labs 24/7, visiting museums downtown, and working hard during my final year of YSDN. Next year, who knows! Welcome to AMPD, and get in touch!
