MFA in Stage Direction in Collaboration with Canadian Stage
Matthew Jocelyn became very active in the performing arts parallel to his university studies in Canada (Mount Allison University, McGill University), in France (Université d’Aix-en-Provence) and in England where he completed his formal studies at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. For the past 20 years he has worked primarily as a theatre and opera director throughout continental Europe, an arts administrator and advocate, and also has taught extensively on an international level. From 1998-2008, he served as artistic and general director of the Atelier du Rhin in Colmar, France, and established the Atelier as a major centre for the production of theatre, opera, contemporary dance, as well as one of Europe’s foremost training centres for opera. Matthew Jocelyn was named Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture in 2008. He made his Canadian Stage directorial debut with Fernando Krapp Wrote Me This Letter as the 2010-2011 season opener and will be directing This by Melissa James Gibson in the 2012-2013 season.
