Laura Clark

4th year Theatre Production

Hello there! My name is Laura and I’m a fourth year Theatre Production student. I grew up in a small village just north of Barrie (seriously, it’s tiny) and am loving life in the big ol’ city of Toronto.

I chose to study at York because of the Theatre program’s incredible reputation, the large campus size, and York’s diverse student population. I’m interested in many different areas of study, and York allowed me to explore those while also getting an extremely valuable theatre education in some of Canada’s best facilities from some of the most talented theatre professionals in the business. My main concentrations of study are production management, stage management, directing, and playwriting, although I also have passions for social work, psychology, mental health, human rights studies, and music (like I said, I like a lot of things).

In my time at York, I’ve worked as a Residence House Don (in Winters and Bethune residences), and with the campus walk-home service, goSAFE. I’ve been a part of York’s Disney Club, Creative Arts Therapy Association, playGround Festival, and also Vanier College Productions. Additionally, I’ve had the pleasure of working on the 2015 Prague Quadrennial in the Czech Republic, and the 2016 Indy Convergence in Indianapolis.

York has given me the opportunity to explore all of my interests, and has encouraged me to take more risks than ever before. I am not only a more rounded artist, but also a more rounded person due to my experiences at this school. The community within the School of Arts, Media, Performance, and Design is so connected, and supportive, it will help to create opportunities you haven’t even imagined yet. Break a leg!
