Bodies explore the mind in Human Archetype’s “c6”

Rose Hajas (BFA ’14, MA ’17) began devising Within Thyself as a Masters candidate in York University’s Dance program. Now she and co-choreographer Serena Finlayson (BFA ’14) are preparing to premiere a new iteration of the work, titled c6. The duo present the piece within Human Archetype Dance Company, which they founded together after they graduated from York.

Portraying a degree of psychological surrealism, c6 explores the relationship between the human mind and body, and tackles the heavy concept of dissociative identity disorder. The piece features seven dancers including a number of current York dance students and recent alumni.

It will premiere at Your Dance Fest in Toronto, August 25-27. Curated by an interdisciplinary panel of artists from outside of the dance community, the premise of the festival is to tap into a broader appeal and start new conversations around dance performance –offering shows, workshops, talkback sessions and parties. The artistic team behind the fest include a number of York dance grads including Festival Director Candice Irwin (BFA ’12), Aria Evans (BFA ’12), Julie Grant (BFA ’09), Emma Letki (BFA ’13) and Liisa Smith (BFA ’08).
